When I don't have time to write I have like a thousand ideas that come to me and I say "I really should write about this" or "I need to tell my blog world about this", and then when I have time to sit down and write, like tonight, it's all a blur and what ideas I do recall I now can't think of anything to say.
Ugh.
That's the way it goes, though, isn't it?

Farewell... sort of
Well, I feel it's time to close down this blog.
I've been working on another project, and while it's far from finished, it's ready for me to share with you.
I've started another blog, but one that's on a different path from this one.
I wanted an outlet for me to express my views on current events, politics, hot topics, etc freely and that is the basis of my new blog.
I hope to also find a place to share the occasional post on parenting, homeschooling, marriage, life, etc. but those topics will not be the foundation of my writing.
What I'm trying to say is that it is going to be a bit more opinionated than you're used to reading on here, so may not be what you're looking for. Or maybe it'll suit you just fine. I suppose only time will tell.
So, without further ado, here's the link to my new project:
Thank you to those of you who have followed me and read my posts for all this time now. I really appreciate it. Look for my new blog identity out in blogger land!
Enjoy!

New Direction
So I know I haven't been on this blog much lately. It started out unintentional, busy-ness, figuring out my new schedule & life and all. Then it became somewhat intentional.
A little ways in the future I will be starting a new endeavour. Still blogging / writing. Just taking things in a totally new direction.
To that end, I will most likely eventually shut this site down. Not immediately, but eventually. Most likely, but not definitely.
I hope you all will join me on my new journey when it is time. Can't wait to fill you in on more details in the future. I am excited, but nervous at the same time.
Thanks for sticking with me so far!

Here I am!
I'm here! I swear!
I have missed blogging and my blog-friends so much! If you've read me for long you may remember that I used to blog during my lunch break. Well, since leaving that job and becoming a SAHM, I've had a hard time finding a good place for it in my schedule. It seemed that there was always something more important I could (or should) be doing: more housework, more child care, more errands, more, more, more.
But blogging is something I really love and after talking it over with my lovely husband we both agreed that for Pete's sake I can put aside one hour a week for blogging! One hour was my idea. I just thought that I can do something for myself for one hour just once a week and not feel guilty about it, right?
So, as of the new year, I'm back. My plan is to write as much as I can during my one hour weekly session as possible, and schedule out the posts to keep my blog flowing nicely. To start I imagine they will be well-spaced out, but I hope as I get back into the swing of things I'll be back to a daily post in no time.
I'm also planning on using some of that hour to get back to reading some of your lovely blogs that I have neglected during this time as well. I have missed you and I have wondered about you and what was going on and how you were doing. Hopefully all is well with everyone.
If you'd like me to check your blog out, feel free to leave a link in the comments.
I'm so happy to be back and I look forward to both sharing with you and reading what you've shared! Till next time!

Fragmented Updates
I have quite a bit to update ya'll on, lots has been going on, lots of things rolling around in my head. Finding time to put pen to paper finger to keyboard has been difficult. At least the time to put together the updates I need to.
So for now, I leave you with some fragments, and a promise of future updates.
*******************************************************
Jason's new business is still going well, but has hit a bit of a lull. So he's looking for some new ways to publicize.
*******************************************************
A business associate of Jason's offered to trade Jason's services for a used hot tub. A really nice, was $8k when it was new hot tub.
We're tempted, but we also estimate it's going to be at least a year before our deck is finished, and I really don't want a hot tub hanging around, uninstalled. For a year. Or more. What to do...
*******************************************************
The heat & humidity we've had this summer reminds me of marching band. And makes me wonder how I ever survived.
*******************************************************
Also, I fully acknowledge that I'm a total wuss because of air conditioning. I grew up without it. My parents got a window unit when I was 14, but kept it in their bedroom with the door shut.
*******************************************************
Jena starts Kindergarten in a few weeks. Way too soon.
*******************************************************
I really need someone to come over and clean my house. Any takers? On a regular basis would be even better.
*******************************************************
I guess that's it for now. As always, thanks for checking in!

What's on my...
vanity:We don't have a vanity in either bathroom
In our master bath, the only things on the sink are the hand soap and a cup for drinking water.
In the hallway bathroom, soap, cup, plus toothbrush holder.
perennial to-do list:
cleaning! Laundry, dishes, tidying up, floors, etc, etc, etc. Always.
refrigerator shelves:I badly need to go grocery shopping, so not much. Some Bob Evans sides. Milk. Jello. I think that's it.
itinerary:eat dinner, take Jena to Vacation Bible School, go grocery shopping, pick Jena up, nighttime routine
playlist:What's a playlist? Get off my lawn!
nightstand:we don't have one. Jason is opposed to them, believing they only exist to become cluttered with junk
workout plan:bwahahahahahahaha!
iPhone:Psshht. Apple. My Galaxy I just got, so not much. Candy Crush. Facebook. Netflix. Pictures.
top 5 list:Top 5 what? I'm confused. I'm gonna go with top 5 dogs to add to our pack, because that's what's on my mind lately: Anatolian Shepherd, Kangal, Great Pyrenees. Yeah, I really only have three.
bucket list:So long. Dive with sharks. Heck, dive in the ocean at all. Visit Hawaii, Europe, Alaska. Dive the Great Barrier Reef. Own a new car (like an actually new car, not just new to me). See a Broadway show on Broadway.
mind:why am I so tired lately?
blogroll:Like who I read? Okay, here are a few:
A Yellow Rose of Texas
Crazy Texas Mommy
The Bloggess
Burgh Baby
Momastery
Crappy Pictures
Misconceptions about Conception
Fire Wife Katie
Living that Life
Elsewhere
walls of your favorite room in the house:
right now it's one wall in my living room. Flat screen television mounted, family pic on one side, Jena's school pic on the other. Love.
last credit card statement:
payment + interest. We haven't used a credit card in a couple of years, but are still paying on our home renovations :(
TV every night:Netflix. Current osession is Rescue Me.
Hope you enjoyed!

Liebster Award
That's right folks, I have been nominated for my first ever award! I'm so excited! In the past I have seen Liebster Awards on other blogger's pages, and was sooooooooo jealous, LOL! I wanted one.
And now I have one, thanks to Dana over at Prudent Wisdom.
So, here's how this is supposed to work, Liebster Awards have a sort of chain-letter approach. You get nominated. You accept, and write an obligatory post (11 facts about yourself, answer 11 questions from your nominator, and ask your recipients 11 questions), nominating several blogs that you enjoy to also receive Liebster Awards. Spread the love, and all.
Yay! An award, a blog prompt, and I get to nominate some of my favorite bloggers as well! Does it get much better? Probably not in the blog world, LOL. So here goes:
11 facts about myself:
1) I've always had a thing for youger men, and Jason is three years my junior
2) My siblings and I are in the beginning stages of planning a celebration for my parents next year. Why? To celebrate FIFTY years of wedded bliss. What a great example for all of us!
3) I am the youngest of my siblings. So is Jason.
4) My siblings drive me crazy. I also love them more than life itself. And I'm pretty sure both feelings are mutual.
5) I play several musical instruments (but only one well), but cannot match my voice to a musical note by looking at sheet music. I sing by ear. And not that well.
6) We have not had any cable / satellite for nearly three years. And I don't miss it at all. We only get one channel right now, and it doesn't come in clearly. Mostly we use streaming Netflix.
7) I was raised in a strict Independent Baptist family, but now attend an inter-denominational church, and do not consider myself to belong to any particular religious denomination
8) I accepted Christ as my Saviour at church camp at the age of 10, rededicated my life to the Lord at age 15, and have been on an ever-developing journey of faith ever since.
9) My fears are: bumper cars, water slides, and chickens. Analyze that, ha!
10) When I was single, I decided I was only getting married once. I still hold to that.
11) I like big dogs. But not crazy about little dogs. At all.
11 questions, and their answers, from my nominee (Dana):
1) How do you work blogging into your schedule?
Most of my blogging occurs on my lunch break at work.2) If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Oh, my list is so very, very long! Lately I've been dreaming of southern Europe, so let's go with that.
3) If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?
My Grandpa. He passed away when Iwas six years old, and I still miss him. And all of his kids & grandkids get to be there too.
4) How often do you blog?
It varies. I try to set it up to post daily, that's my goal. But as for the actual writing, it tends to come in spurts. I'll go days without writing anything, then have other days where I crank out three or four posts in no time. So I try to pre-write, and then schedule, my posts, to keep it more even for my readers.5) What is your favourite color?
For most of my life my favourite color has been blue.
6) Is your house decorated in any way with firefighter decor?
We have a fireplace room that I've dedicated for all of our firefighter decor. So far it's pretty spare. A few firetrucks on the mantle, a few pics on the wall, a decorate fire hydrant in the corner.
7) What would be, or is, your favorite vacation spot?
If I had to pick one all-time favorite, it would be the Great Smoky Mountains. Can't get enough of the place!
8) A sentence or two describing a happy moment from your childhood?
Popping tar bubbles with our toes on the road outside Grandma & Grandpa's farmouse.
9) What is something you recently learned?
Learning some new responsibilities at work. Not really at liberty to discuss.
10) Which do you prefer, coffee or tea?
Sweet tea, thank you.
11) What is your favourite season of the year and why?
Autumn. I've always liked autumn, and it just keeps getting better. Cooler temps, football season, now our wedding anniversary and Jena's birthday. Can't get any better. My blog nominations:

Playing Catch Up
Oh wow. I can't believe how busy I've been lately. I know, I know. You're probably getting tired of hearing it.
As it relates to blogging, the good thing about being busy is that I have lots of stories I'd like to share with you.
The bad part is that I have no time to write them down!
Everything from the cute (Jena's pet snail) to the mundane (work drama) to the somewhat scary (the bear was this close!) to the entertaining (sharing the stage with a star) to the criminal (should I steal these dogs?). And everything in between.
Much of it happened on our recent trip to the Smoky Mountains. Always a good time. If you've never been, you should totally go.
And now I'm playing catch-up at work and at home, on top of the busy-ness I was already experiencing. But I have got to get some of these stories down while they are fairly fresh. Seriously.
As always, thanks for checking in!

Blue Screen of Death
![]() |
source |
That's right folks, last night on my home laptop I got the blue screen of death. My computer has been acting up for about a week or so, so thankfully I went ahead & backed up all my photos over last weekend, but I'm pretty sure we're on borrowed time.
I've heard there are ways to recover, but I've also heard they cost $$, which we don't really have right now. So if my experience with systems support at work is any indication, I might have another couple of days of incredibly slow and hindered usage before it actually dies.
As for my blog, I have some posts pre-written and scheduled to go out, and I may be able to post during breaks at work if my workload lets up. Other than that, I'll probably be MIA for a bit.
So thanks for checking in, and hopefully you'll hear from me soon!

Stupid Breast Cancer
*warning* I use bad words in this post. If you choose to read on, then deal with it. If you think you might be offended, then please stop reading. Thank you.
Before I say what I want to say, please go over to Baby Rabies, and read this post first. Because my post isn't gonna make a whole lotta sense until you do.
Okay, did you read it? Good. Now I can proceed. Because I really want to say:
FUCK YOU BREAST CANCER
I don't know why this woman's story has struck such a nerve with me, but it has and I am pissed.
How dare you?!? How dare you invade this beautiful woman, this loving mother, and put her & her family thru this?!? How fucking dare you?!?
You have no idea how badly I want to come up in there and KICK YOUR ASS right now!!!
She is a woman. A wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT.
To put her thru this with a toddler at home and a baby in her belly is just cruel. But that is what you do best, isn't it? Cruelty?
Well, you know what? Screw you. She rocks, and is gonna beat you at your own game.
And guess what? She's got a helluva huge support group behind her.
God bless the internet.
So I'm doing the only thing I know to do to help: I'm spreading her story. Because FUCK YOU. She wants to breast feed her baby, and you're gonna take her breasts? Fine. Screw you. We got her covered.
I may not have milk to give, but I have a computer, and I have internet access, and SCREW YOU.
On that note, let's go folks. If you are in, or know someone in, the Orange County, California area and are able & willing to help, please follow the instructions over at Baby Rabies. If not, pass it on. Seven degrees of separation & all, we can all reach someone who can help.

So apparently my blog was down?
WTHeck?
I noticed while posting on a couple of blogs earlier today that used "comment luv" that my posts weren't showing up to link to. I assumed it was due to me not having posted in a few days.
Then I went to open my blog, and it said "blog not found" or something similar. And my heart sank.
Blah, blah, blah. I haven't checked my personal email (including my gmail) account in a day or so (busy, busy, remember?). Finally was able to log in far enough into my account to get a message telling me there had been unusual activity on my account and asking for account verification.
About five screens & answered questions later, we're back up.
My heart is still pounding.
So, as a note of precaution, if you've received any strange emails from KYFIREWIFE at gmail in the past couple of days, I'm gonna go ahead & say just delete them. Just in case. 'Cause right now I'm kinda assuming I was hacked.
Scary. Making mental note to back up the blog...

Randoms
It dawned on me as I was writing one of the latest posts about my nephew, that this blog will be a good chronicle of his journey. No, I'm not at the hospital every day like his family is. But I am the only person writing about it on a near-daily experience.
**********************
You guys know I pre-write most of my posts, right? Well, I do. Most of them. I write them, then schedule for them to be published at 12noon each day.
It works really well for me because I tend to have bursts of writing mojo, followed by writer's block. So if I pre-write them and schedule them out, there's no gap on my blog.
Right now I have the next 3 weeks scheduled out.
99% of the reason behind that is because updates on my nephew kept pushing other posts out further.
***********************
Sometimes I think it'll be weird if I die suddenly (okay, I guess that would always be weird in some way), but in relation to my blog it would be weird because my posts would keep showing up every day at 12noon, even though I was already dead.
Spooky.

The other day Jena told me Tootsie had a week or less before she died.
Mostly I'm writing this down in case it happens.
She is old...

I guess that's all for now.
As always, thanks for checking in!

Quick Note to My Readers / Bloggy Friends
I am still trying to get back in the swing of things following all my family drama.
I am finally reading blogs on a regular basis again, on my lunch break as usual.
However... for some reason my work's internet security is now blocking a few of the blogs I follow. So if you don't hear from me, that's why :(
I am very much behind in reading / responding to comments left on my posts. And emails. Sorry. I'm working on it. But I promise I haven't forgotten you and I am most definitely not ignoring you.
I've noticed I've picked up a few new readers lately. Maybe you stopped by for one post. Maybe you hung around. Whatever the case is, welcome.
If you commented or sent me an email, I'll get to it, I promise.
I also like to check out the blogs of my readers, so that's on my list as well.
Mostly I guess the point of this post is to make sure you know that I do appreciate all of my bloggy friends, even if I'm a little behind on my end of the game right now.
I always liked you guys, but the past few weeks have shown me how very awesome you are.
Thank you.

Haters
Were you aware that there are people out there who spend copious amounts of time trying to drag other people down?
Oh yes, this happens in real life, but it also happens online.
And this baffles me.
I have read myself posts on message boards saying "oh, this person's blog is awful for reason A,B, or C, you all should hate it too"
And people will spend all kinds of time going to that blog, leaving negative comments, telling everyone how ridiculous that person is, etc.
Some people take it even farther. Sometimes, there are blogs or websites set up to post negative information about another blog or website.
And I'm not talking about company sites, news sites, etc. Sites where there are concrete facts available to credit or discredit someone's statements.
I'm talking 90% he-said-she-said, opinions flying, very little (if any) credible information.
No, this isn't happening to me. But thanks for thinking I'm popular enough to draw such attention, LOL.
But it has happened, and does happen.
And I don't understand it. For several reasons.
Firstly, in every case that I've seen personally, the blogs being criticized also participate in programs that pay them by the view. Which means that every time you go to their site to read stuff you don't wanna read, every time you send another person there to criticize what you don't like... you're paying them.
Don't you understand that? In fact, in one of the cases where I saw it posted on a message board, I ended up liking the blog, and was a regular reader for about a year. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. So by sending me there, you not only gave her a one time hit, you gave her regular hits for about a year.
Good job. You just gave free advertisement to the person you're trying to tear down, and are essentially responsible for supporting them. Brilliant.
Secondly, I don't understand people who have large amounts of time to dedicate to negatively attacking another individual, who they most likely have never met in person.
I, personally, just don't have that kind of time on my hands. Plus, I'd rather dedicate my time to following, reading, and responding to something that I enjoy, not something that I have such strong negative feelings about that I feel the need to react harshly.
I just can't fathom spending the time & energy that some people do into attacking someone else on a personal level. I mean, just from a selfish level, doing so means that you are choosing to immerse yourself in negative emotion on a regular basis.
I just don't understand why someone would do that.
If I don't like a blog or website - either because it just doesn't click with me, or because I actually am opposed to something they are saying or doing* - I don't go there anymore.
It's a wonderful tool, that button on your mouse. Click away from the site you don't like!
Not only does it keep you from continually placing yourself in a position of conflict, it also decreases their views, decreasing whatever revenue they might get from hits.
Plus, you aren't bringing anyone else down with your actions!
It's a win-win-win situation!
This post doesn't really have a point. It's just something that I've come across several times over the past few years, and something that baffles me every. single. time.
I just don't understand it at all.
Thanks for checking in!

* this is not to say that I don't read blogs of people who disagree with me. In fact, some of my favorite blogs thru the years have been written by bloggers who have viewpoints vastly different from my own. And when they handle themselves with grace & tact, it can be a beautiful thing to open yourself to listening to people who think differently than you

Random Thought re: the Blog Diva
Back when Lela Davidson posted this post on the 8 Types of Bloggers You Meet at BlogHer, I was mostly struck by The Diva.
Because, in the interest of being totally honest here, even if I follow your blog regularly, heck - even if I check your blog every day... there'sa pretty good an almost absolute chance I don't have a clue what you look like, or what your real name is.
Could be that I'm the weird one. After all, unless an actor happens to be one of my favorites (meaning, one of my favorites, and not necessarily the media's flavor of the day), I wouldn't recognize them either.
So the idea of a blog diva... well, that just struck me as funny. And I would probably end up disappointing them greatly.
As they would me.

The Diva
The Diva strolls from one party to another with premium swag weighing her down. She has been around. She knows all. Luckily, I only met one blogger who disappointed me with her less-than-lovely real life self. Of course I’m not going to mention her by name, but I will say she wasn’t the only one. I heard many stories of “Who are you?” and “Don’t you know who I am?” Being courted by the brands does not impress me. Show me the money or write a book and then I’ll respect you Because, in the interest of being totally honest here, even if I follow your blog regularly, heck - even if I check your blog every day... there's

Not Just Another Blog Challenge

I know, I know... aren't there enough of these blog challenges floating around?
Yes, yes there are. But... quite frankly it seems like a lot of them ask the same things. Or some of the same things.
So a few months ago, I started making a list. Questions for a blog challenge of my own. Topics I've never seen in a blog challenge (not that I'm an expert or anything, just things I hadn't seen). Things I think might be interesting. Things that, if answered honestly, tell a bit about who a person really is.
When possible, pictures would be awesome.
Answer one question per blog post. As frequently as is convenient for you, but let's aim for answering at least one question per week, just to keep things flowing.
And please use the badge shown above to link back to this post, 'kay?
Hope you'll play along!
Here's the list:
*******************
3. your first job (doesn't include chores)
5. something you side-eye (something you're judgy about)
7. something you struggle with
8. your past significant others (does not include "just dated", but those you would classify as an actual relationship)
8. your past significant others (does not include "just dated", but those you would classify as an actual relationship)
(ie what makes you want it)
18. oldest clothes in your closet (that you still wear)
